Trash
Recover deleted files or permanently remove them.
The Trash provides a safety net for deleted files, allowing you to recover them if needed or permanently remove them when you're sure they're no longer needed.
What Goes to Trash
When you delete a file from the Hub, it's moved to Trash rather than being permanently deleted immediately. This is called a "soft delete."
Files that go to Trash include:
- Documents
- Whiteboards
- Folders (and their contents)
Soft delete gives you a chance to recover accidentally deleted files. Files remain in Trash until you permanently delete them or empty the Trash.
Viewing Trash
Access your deleted files by clicking Trash in the Hub sidebar.
Trash Contents
The Trash view displays a table with:
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Name | File or folder name |
| Type | Document, whiteboard, or folder |
| Size | File size |
| Deleted | Date and time when the file was deleted |
Sorting Trash
Click column headers to sort by:
- Name (alphabetical)
- Type
- Size
- Deletion date (newest or oldest first)
Restoring Items
Recover deleted files by restoring them from Trash.
Go to Trash in the Hub sidebar
Find the file you want to restore
Click the Restore button on the file row
The file is moved back to its original location
What Happens When You Restore
- The file returns to its original folder
- If the original folder was deleted, the file is restored to the root
- All file content and metadata are preserved
- Sharing settings are restored
Permanent Deletion
Permanently remove individual files when you're certain they're no longer needed.
Go to Trash in the Hub sidebar
Find the file you want to permanently delete
Click the Delete Forever button
Confirm the deletion in the dialog
Permanent deletion cannot be undone
Once you click Delete Forever and confirm, the file is permanently removed. There is no way to recover it.
Confirmation Required
A confirmation dialog appears before permanent deletion to prevent accidental data loss. Review the file name carefully before confirming.
Empty Trash
Remove all items from Trash at once.
Go to Trash in the Hub sidebar
Click Empty Trash in the toolbar
Review the warning about permanent deletion
Confirm to permanently delete all items
This action cannot be undone
Emptying Trash permanently deletes ALL files in Trash. Make sure you've restored any files you need before emptying.
When to Empty Trash
- When you need to free up storage space
- When you're sure you don't need any of the deleted files
- As part of regular cleanup routines
Best Practices
Review before emptying: Always check Trash contents before emptying to ensure you don't lose important files.
Restore first, delete later: If you're unsure about a file, restore it first. You can always delete it again.
Regular cleanup: Periodically review and empty Trash to free up storage space.
Check deletion dates: Use the deletion date column to identify how long files have been in Trash.
