Screen Sharing

Share your screen, a window, or specific applications with meeting participants.

Screen sharing lets you show your screen, a specific window, or application to meeting participants. It's essential for presentations, demonstrations, and collaborative work.

Starting Screen Share

Click the Share Screen button in the bottom toolbar

A dialog appears with sharing options

Select what you want to share (screen, window, or tab)

Click Share to begin sharing

Sharing Options

Share everything visible on your display.

Best for:

  • Switching between multiple apps during presentation
  • Showing workflow across applications
  • Full desktop demonstrations

Considerations:

  • Participants see everything on your screen
  • Be mindful of notifications and personal content
  • Consider hiding sensitive windows before sharing

Share only a specific application window.

Best for:

  • Focused presentations
  • Sharing one app while keeping others private
  • Avoiding notification interruptions

Considerations:

  • Only the selected window is visible
  • If you minimize the window, sharing may pause
  • Popups within the app are shown

Share a single browser tab.

Best for:

  • Web-based demonstrations
  • Sharing specific web content
  • Keeping other tabs private

Considerations:

  • Tab audio can optionally be shared
  • Switching tabs stops sharing that content
  • Browser chrome may or may not be visible

Sharing Audio

When sharing your screen, you may have the option to share audio:

  • System audio — Sound from your computer is shared
  • Tab audio — Sound from a browser tab (when sharing a tab)
  • No audio — Only visual content is shared

Check the audio checkbox in the share dialog if you need participants to hear sound from what you're sharing.

Audio sharing availability depends on your browser and operating system. Some combinations don't support system audio sharing.

Who Can Share

Screen sharing permissions depend on your meeting role:

RoleCan Share Screen
Host✅ Always
Co-Host✅ Always
Presenter✅ Always
Attendee⚙️ Depends on meeting settings

The Host can enable or disable screen sharing for Attendees during the meeting.

While Sharing

Your View

While sharing, you'll see:

  • An indicator showing you're currently sharing
  • A preview of what participants see
  • Controls to pause or stop sharing

Participant View

Participants see your shared content in the main meeting area. Their view adjusts based on the meeting layout settings.

Controls During Sharing

  • Stop Share — End screen sharing
  • Pause — Temporarily pause (participants see frozen screen)
  • New Share — Switch to sharing something else

Stopping Screen Share

To stop sharing:

  1. Click the Stop Share button in the meeting controls, or
  2. Use the system-level stop button (usually shown in your taskbar/menu bar), or
  3. Close or minimize the shared window/app

Tips for Effective Sharing

Close unnecessary apps: Reduce distractions and protect privacy.

Use a clean desktop: Remove personal files and shortcuts if sharing your full screen.

Disable notifications: Turn on "Do Not Disturb" to prevent notification popups.

Check your sharing before speaking: Confirm participants can see what you intend.

Consider window size: Shared content may be viewed on smaller screens. Ensure text is readable.

Use Presenter view for slides: If presenting slides, use your app's presenter mode for better control.

Troubleshooting

Can't start screen share

Browser permissions: Your browser needs permission to share your screen. Look for a permissions prompt or check browser settings.

Meeting settings: Screen sharing may be disabled by the host. Check with them if you need to share.

Already sharing: Only one person can share at a time (typically). Wait for the current share to end.

Quality issues

Reduce resolution: Lower your screen resolution for smoother sharing.

Close bandwidth-heavy apps: Video streaming or large downloads can affect quality.

Check internet connection: Poor connectivity affects screen share quality.

Participants can't see properly

Increase text size: Small text may be hard to read. Zoom in on important content.

Pause for key moments: Give participants time to read or observe.

Use annotations: Highlight important areas (if annotation tools are available).
