Basic Controls
Your microphone, camera, and personal controls during a meeting.
Every participant has access to basic controls for managing their own audio, video, and participation. These controls are available in the bottom toolbar during a meeting.
Audio Controls
Microphone
The microphone button toggles your audio:
- Click to mute — Your microphone is turned off
- Click to unmute — Your microphone is turned on
- Red slash indicator — Shows when you're muted
Best practice: Stay muted when not speaking to avoid background noise disrupting the meeting.
Selecting Audio Devices
Click the arrow next to the microphone button to:
- Choose a different microphone
- Choose a different speaker/headphones
- Adjust audio settings
Video Controls
Camera
The camera button toggles your video:
- Click to turn off — Your video feed stops, others see your avatar
- Click to turn on — Your video feed is shared with others
- Red slash indicator — Shows when your camera is off
Selecting Camera
Click the arrow next to the camera button to:
- Choose a different camera (if you have multiple)
- Adjust video settings
- Apply virtual backgrounds (if enabled)
Raise Hand
Use the raise hand feature to signal you want to speak without interrupting:
- Click the Raise Hand button
- A hand icon appears next to your name in the participants list
- The Host or Co-Host can see raised hands and call on you
- Click again to lower your hand
Raise hand is more orderly than unmuting and speaking. It lets the Host manage who speaks next, especially in larger meetings.
Layout Options
Change how you see the meeting with the layout button (usually bottom-left):
| Layout | Description |
|---|---|
| Gallery | Grid of all participants |
| Speaker | Large view of active speaker, small thumbnails of others |
| Presentation | Large shared content, small video thumbnails |
Switch layouts based on what's happening:
- Use Gallery for discussions with many participants
- Use Speaker to focus on who's talking
- Use Presentation when someone is sharing content
Settings During Meeting
Click the settings icon (gear) to adjust:
- Audio settings — Input/output devices, volume
- Video settings — Camera selection, quality
- General settings — Notifications, display name
Changes take effect immediately without leaving the meeting.
Leaving the Meeting
Leave Button
Click Leave (usually in the top-right corner, colored red) to exit:
- Leave Meeting — Exit the meeting yourself
- Others continue without you
- You can rejoin if the meeting is still active
End Meeting (Hosts Only)
Hosts see additional options:
- Leave Meeting — Exit but let the meeting continue
- End Meeting for All — Terminate the meeting for everyone
